Native to the Atlas Mountains of North Africa, Atlas cedar is the most cold-hardy of the true cedars. The blue-needled cultivar has been widely planted in European and American gardens, where it becomes a large, spreading tree. R. H. Montgomery donated a pair of blue Atlas cedars to the Garden in 1949. These trees now anchor the Montgomery Oval in the Benenson Ornamental Conifers. |
