Often cited as having the whitest bark of any birch, this deciduous tree from Himalayan slopes in India and Nepal can indeed be beautiful. Seed grown trees may have variable bark however, and some cultivated forms have even been selected for glossy, mahogany-brown bark. Once thought to be resistant to bronze birch borer, a serious pest in the eastern United States, Himalayan white birch has proven to be susceptible to this insect which burrows into the trunks of trees and evenutally kills them. |
